About Musician Therapy Studio

Therapy built for the reality of creative work.

Musician Therapy Studio was created by Sabrina Merz, MS, LPC, for people whose work, identity, and lives are closely tied to music and creativity.

Clinical expertise matters. So does context.

You shouldn’t have to spend your therapy sessions explaining the culture, pressures, and realities surrounding your work before you can get to the part that actually helps.

Musician Therapy Studio

Why this practice exists.

Mental health care is not one size fits all. The circumstances surrounding someone’s life can change what they need from therapy.

Creative careers can be rewarding and demanding at the same time. There can be performance pressure, unpredictable schedules, financial uncertainty, long stretches of intense work, complicated relationships with work and identity, and very little separation between what you do and who you are.

Musician Therapy Studio was created because musicians and people working around music deserve a place where those realities are part of the conversation from the beginning.

That does not mean every problem is caused by the music industry. It means therapy can account for the whole picture instead of treating your work and your life as unrelated background information.

Sabrina’s approach to therapy is grounded in clinical training, evidence-based treatment, and a strong interest in the relationship between the brain, body, nervous system, and behavior.

Her work draws from cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, neuroscience, and nervous-system informed approaches. Therapy is practical, collaborative, and focused on helping you understand what is happening and make useful changes.

Clinical care without losing the human part.

Therapy should give you a better understanding of what is happening, but it should also give you something useful to do with that understanding.

Understand the pattern

We look at what is happening in your thoughts, emotions, body, relationships, and environment so you can see the patterns that keep showing up.

Work with your nervous system

Stress is not only a thought problem. Therapy can include practical ways to understand and work with the nervous system and the physical side of stress and emotion.

Make useful changes

The point is not endless self-analysis. Therapy is a place to build skills, make decisions, change patterns, and figure out what actually works in your life.

“A musician shouldn’t have to spend half their session explaining why a 2:00 AM panic attack after a sold-out show isn’t a sign of failure, but a common neurological crash from a massive adrenaline drop..”
