Private Pay

The straightforward option.

Paying out of pocket gives you the most control over your care. There is no insurance company involved in your treatment, no requirement for a formal diagnosis, and no limits on how long you can be in therapy or what you can work on.

For many musicians and creative professionals, the privacy and flexibility of private pay is worth the investment. Sessions stay entirely between you and your therapist.

If cost is a barrier, reach out. A sliding scale may be available depending on your situation. The conversation is always welcome.

Why Private Pay

What paying out of pocket gives you.

Full Privacy

Insurance companies have access to your diagnosis and treatment records. Private pay keeps your mental health history entirely between you and your therapist.

No Diagnosis Required

Insurance requires a diagnosable condition to cover treatment. Private pay means you can work on anything — stress, burnout, relationships, career — without a label attached.

No Session Limits

Insurance plans often cap the number of sessions covered per year. Private pay means you stay in therapy for as long as it makes sense for you, not as long as your plan allows.

Flexible Scheduling

Without insurance requirements around session frequency or format, scheduling can flex more easily around touring, studio schedules, and the irregular rhythms of creative work.

Simpler Billing

No claim submissions, no pre-authorization, no surprises. You know what you are paying before every session.

HSA and FSA Eligible

Therapy is an eligible expense for most Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts. Check with your plan administrator to confirm.

Insurance

In network with most major plans.

Musician Therapy Studio accepts most major insurance plans. Coverage and cost vary depending on your specific plan. Reach out and we will look into your coverage before your first session.

For out of network plans, we can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Contact your insurer to ask about your out of network mental health benefits.

Common Questions

About fees and insurance.

  • Do you offer a sliding scale?

A sliding scale may be available depending on your financial situation. Reach out directly to discuss. The conversation is always welcome and handled with care.

  • How do I know if my insurance will cover sessions?

Reach out before your first session and we will verify your coverage for you. You can also call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask about your mental health benefits and whether Musician Therapy Studio is in network.

  • What is a superbill and how does it work?

A superbill is an itemized receipt for therapy services that you can submit to your insurance company for out of network reimbursement. We can provide one upon request. Your insurer will determine whether and how much they reimburse based on your plan’s out of network benefits.

  • Can I use my HSA or FSA for sessions?

Yes. Therapy is an eligible expense for most Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts. Check with your plan administrator to confirm your specific account’s eligibility.

  • What is the cancellation policy?

Please cancel or reschedule as soon as you know you cannot make your session. A minimum of 24 hours notice is required, and 48 hours is preferred whenever possible. Life happens and that is understood — what matters is letting us know as soon as you know, not waiting until the last hour. Late cancellations and no-shows may be charged the full session fee.
